The Vermont Golf Association has been the authoritative body for golf in the State of Vermont since 1902. We started with 7 seven member clubs which included Dorset Field Club, Ekwanok Country Club, Montpelier Country Club, Waubanakee Country Club of Burlington, Old Pine Country Club of St. Johnsbury, Mt. Anthony Country Club of Bennington, and the Rutland Country Club. The VGA now represents more than 8,600 amateur golfers and 62 golf clubs within the state.
Golf in Vermont is more than just a game—it’s a year-round contributor to the state’s economy, environment, and communities. Across Vermont, golf supports more than 5,000 jobs, generates hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact, and contributes significant tax revenue that helps fund local services. At the same time, courses preserve over 10,000 acres of greenspace, providing valuable wildlife habitat, supporting sustainability efforts, and protecting the natural landscapes that make Vermont so special. Beyond the numbers, golf plays a meaningful role in bringing people together—hosting hundreds of community events each year and raising millions of dollars for local nonprofits while supporting Vermont’s farms and small businesses.
The Vermont Golf Association’s Economic Impact Study highlights the full scope of how the game touches nearly every corner of the state. From environmental benefits to community engagement and economic strength, the data tells a powerful story about golf’s role in shaping Vermont’s future.
